“If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perversion of justice and righteousness in a province, do not marvel at the matter; for high official watches over high official, and higher officials are over them.” (Ecclesiastes 5:8)

It’s common to see people in positions of power acting as if they were supreme rulers, as if they had a monopoly on the truth and owned everything and everyone. Politicians, religious leaders, and government officials at times assume they’re above the law simply because they hold an important and necessary position, inside or outside of the work of God.

They act as if they were absolute authorities, but they don’t know – or have forgotten – that even though they hold high positions, there’s a Higher Official watching them.

This Higher Official is the Holy Spirit, who sees and controls everything, and above all, weighs everyone’s intentions.

We know many people who once held important positions in the work of God, but acted unfairly, broke the law and abused their authority. They thought they were untouchable, but today they have simply vanished, they lost everything…

A Higher Official was watching them. And the Holy Spirit is always watching us, and the more authority and responsibility we are given in the work of God, the more we need to bow, knowing that we’re being watched.

No oppression, injustice or evil goes unnoticed by the One watching over us…
