To your descendants I will give this land
They came to the land of Canaan… The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. From there he continued on to a mountain to the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. Then Abram continued his journey toward the Negev.… Genesis 12:5-9
Notice that wherever Abraham traveled he built Altars.
In a will, when land is divided up among children, boundary markers are normally placed on the land so it can be divided properly.
When God said to Abraham, “To your descendants I will give this land,” he went out and place boundary markers on it, separating the land. But the markers that Abraham used were Altars to call upon the name of the Lord, in the land that God had given him as an inheritance.
When a person listens to the voice of God, obeys and builds an Altar (sacrifice), he is acknowledging and determining: “This land (blessing) belongs to me because God has given to me as an inheritance.”
